Role/Responsibilities

The major development responsibilities will be:

• Work individually on the database side.

• To acquire in depth knowledge of one or more of the supported products. This to be done by a combination of internal training courses, self study, and being mentored by colleagues.

• To analyze and design solutions from business requirements.

• To provide high quality code, adhering to the exacting standards applicable.

• To proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, so as to insure and improve the quality of the delivered code.

• Liaise with other teams, including the QA group and technical authors to ensure that completed work adheres to appropriate quality standards and relevant changes are correctly documented.

• Participate in peer review sessions to ensure quality deliverables.

• Provide regular feedback to the Manager or other members of the team as required.

Essential

• A degree or equivalent in a computer-related discipline.

• Must have 5 to 7 years commercial software development experience.

• Experience with Oracle Database programming.

• Strong database programming skills (writing queries and procedures), tuning queries for high performance on Oracle.

• Experience working on high volume database

• Experience in designing and development of Reports, preferably in AlphaBlox.

• Experience developing UNIX applications on AIX, Solaris or Linux

• Experience with source control and development tools, Subversion and Rational Suite preferred.

• Strong experience in all stages of the software development life cycle.

Desirable

• Knowledge of Java, experience with web-development using Servlets/JSP/J2EE or equivalent technologies.

• Experience in designing OLTP and OLAP databases

• Strong OLAP skills, prior experience in designing, developing, performance tuning on DB2 OLAP or related OLAP tools.

• Experience on DB2 Database

• Understanding of multi-tier distributed software architectures.

• Experience with the IBM WebSphere toolset including Application and Business Process Servers.

• Experience in Collaborative development spread across different geographical locations.

• Experience with the Rational Unified Process

• A demonstrable ability to ensure that they and their team produce quality software in a timely fashion.

• Shows initiative - can work autonomously when required

• Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.

• Show attention to detail and be meticulous.

• Logical and methodical approach with proven problem solving capabilities

• Willing to spend short periods of time away from the office
